Back in my college days, I was quit a prankster! Every opportunity I had, I played practical jokes on my friends. It was difficult to suspect me, at first, because I didn't seem the type. I was quiet and had an easy time keeping a straight face. I've never exactly been accused of smiling too much! I had and believe it or not still have one friend that received more than her fair share of my jokes.
My favorite memory was the time when she was in the spring semester of her senior year of college. There was a company who frequently interviewed soon-to-be graduates on our campus. She had already completed her first interview with them and was anxiously waiting to hear an answer. I got the bright idea to be the one to offer that second interview.
I just happened to be friends with the career placement director, so I paid him a little visit one day and got a letterhead with the company's name on it. I then typed her a letter stating that a second interview would take place on the next day at 4:00 p.m. but before the interview could take place, a urine sample was needed to make sure she was drug free. The letter then told her that she would have to bring her own sterile urine cup as they did not provide those for their interviewees.
She received this letter about two hours before interview time, and she sped all over Lubbock looking for sterile urine cups. She finally found one and raced back to the school running all the way. She topped the stairs to the nurse's office only to find a sign that read, "Happy April Fool's Day" and the campus photographer snapping her picture holding her urine cup for the world to see.
She did forgive me for that but that picture made it into the school catalog the next year.
I'm not really sure what reminded me of this story today. Maybe it's because I had Ramen Noodles for supper - the choice meal of all college students, or it could be that I'm really missing my college girl today and would love to cuddle her for just a few minutes! I hope she's making life-long friends like I did. Life is never better while you're in college.
Love you, my friend, Carol Dixon! Miss you and love you, my daughter, Kalee!
Blessings,
Penny
P.S. My friend, Carol, reminded me in a comment that I failed to mention the fact that she had been tanning and had Crisco (yes, you read that correctly) all over her body and had to get cleaned up and find the cup in two hours! That makes me laugh even harder!
love this one too, Penny!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI figured it was Carol! It is a wonder she's still friends with you. I never played jokes on anyone I was too afraid of paybacks, but I did help you with one one time. Remember the phone calls to an ex-boyfriend?
ReplyDeleteYou failed to mention that I had been tanning with Crisco (yes, I thought Crisco would give me an awesome tan!) and had to get cleaned up and get the cup in 2 hours. I could have killed you, but am so glad that I didn't. You have been a true friend even though we live miles apart. We have still made some fantastic memories after college life. When I need to talk to someone, I know I can pick up the phone and call you and it will be like we have never been apart. Thank you for being there for me even though sometimes you were a bit pranky! Love you!
