For those of you who don't know me very well, one of the classes I teach is 7th grade grammar. Today one of my students boldly told me that he didn't agree with some of the grammar rules in our language. I said, "Okay, agree or not, you still have to learn them and follow them if you want to get the correct answer."
Sometimes, I think we do that with God. We tell God that we don't like some of His rules, and He says, "Okay, agree or not, you still have to follow them if you want peace in your life." I don't think we ever stop to think about why He tells us to do the things He tells us to do. He really does want the best for us. When we truly put God first and love our neighbor as ourselves doesn't life seem to go much better? If we all looked out for the welfare of everyone around us, wouldn't this be a wonderful world?
Paul tells us in I Corinthians 10:22-23 "Looking at it one way, you could say, "Anything goes. Because of God's immense generosity and grace, we don't have to dissect and scrutinize every action to see if it will pass muster." But the point is not to just get by. We want to live well, but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well." (The Message)
When we help others live well, we are blessed. God really does love us and wants all of us to have peace in our lives.
Blessings,
Penny
