I find it ironic that my students always seem to teach me more about life and living than I teach them. Each year my 7th grade students create their family tree. Part of that assignment is to write a poem that describes their uniques personality. The purpose of that assignment is to help them develop self-worth during a time in their lives when that seems to be stripped away. I wanted to share one of the poems with you today and hope that it speaks to you as much as it did to me. I have changed her name in this poem.
Just Me
I'm just me,that you can't change.
I'm different, so don't call me insane.
I can't be anyone but myself.
This is because being anything else would be putting
the real Michele on the shelf.
I can't be different, don't even try.
I'm done now, goodbye!
Such simple words spoke volumns to my heart and taught me a valuable lesson. I hope you can find some value in it too.
Blessings,
Penny
